As Vermont's grid operator, VELCO works with the state's 17 local distribution utilities and the New England regional grid operator to meet high national and regional standards of reliability designed to ensure that electricity is always available, even in times of peak demand, severe weather and unforeseen events.
VELCO's ESG Report highlights our work to help create a sustainable Vermont through our people, assets, relationships and operating model. We aim to approach our ESG work with the same spirit of innovation, urgency, and rigor that fuels our system reliability and resilience work.
VELCO’s core work is to manage the safe, reliable, cost-effective transmission of electric power throughout Vermont and as part of the integrated New England regional network. In addition, we constantly seek ways that innovative solutions and technology can make us more effective at being a trusted partner in grid solutions.
VELCO releases 2024 VT Long-Range Transmission Plan
The 2024 Vermont Long-Range Transmission Plan is a comprehensive assessment of the state's future electricity needs and potential grid upgrades to maintain reliability in the face of increasing demand and clean energy adoption. The plan highlights several areas where transmission upgrades or non-transmission alternatives may be necessary to ensure a reliable and resilient grid for the next 20 years.
VELCO is proud to have earned the Great Place To Work® Certification™, strengthening its status as one of the top employers in the region. This recognition is based on the Great Place To Work Trust Index survey, where VELCO employees shared their workplace experiences.
VELCO’s Advancing Grid Intelligence through Learning Experiences (AGILE) Program is an eight to ten week summer internship opportunity for college students, both undergraduate and graduate. Based on principles of agile project management, AGILE Interns will make meaningful and tangible contributions to VELCO’s strategic projects to maintain or enhance the reliability, affordability and sustainability of Vermont's transmission system.
An internship at VELCO provides learning opportunities to college students who are interested in careers in power or electric utility engineering, environmental management, technology, telecommunications, and other related fields. It is also an opportunity for VELCO to strengthen students’ knowledge, skills, and potential for future employment. One of the most rewarding ways to jumpstart your career is to gain a hands-on experience at a welcoming company like VELCO, a certified Great Place to Work and a leader in New England’s utility industry.
