Rutland, VT (January 31, 2024) - Vermont Electric Power Company (VELCO) invites Windsor area residents and other interested individuals to an informational session about a proposed project to upgrade the Windsor Substation. The meeting will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the Windsor Town Office, located at 29 Union Street in Windsor, VT. VELCO community outreach staff will present details of proposed project, answer questions, and address any community concerns.
The meeting is one of several steps leading up to a formal request for a permit to construct the project from the Vermont Public Utility Commission. The Commission requires that VELCO provide 45 days’ notice, including a detailed project description to local select boards and other officials. This enables community leaders to review and discuss the project’s impacts with residents, and to provide input before formal proceedings begin before the Commission. VELCO provided the 45-day notice to the Windsor Select Board and the Mount Ascutney Regional Planning Commission on January 22, 2024.
The Windsor Project as proposed would upgrade the protection and control systems and construct a larger control building. The project will also require a fence expansion.
VELCO plans to formally apply to the Vermont Public Utility Commission for project approval on March 7, 2024. Subject to Commission approval, construction will begin in Spring 2025, and be completed in summer 2026.
Interested individuals are requested to RSVP to slouiselle@velco.com or call 802-770-6381. For more information, visit www.velco.com/windsor.
